PSG humble Inter 5-0 to win UCL title

MUNICH: Desire Doue scored twice to inspire French club Paris St Germain to their first European Cup triumph with an emphatic 5-0 win over Inter Milan in a one-sided Champions League final on Saturday.

Doue, 19, produced a dazzling display, setting up Achraf Hakimi to open the scoring from close range after 12 minutes before doubling the lead with a deflected effort eight minutes later.

He put the outcome beyond doubt with a crisp finish into the bottom corner in the 63rd minute before Khvicha Kvara­tskhelia ran free to bury PSG’s fourth goal and substitute Senny Mayulu completed the rout.

Rajanpur by-poll today despite ‘security concerns’

ISLAMABAD: The Election Com­mission of Pakistan (ECP) has rej­e­c­ted the Punjab government’s request and decided to hold the by-election in Rajanpur on Sunday (today). The by-election will take place on the seat, NA-193 (Rajanpur), which had fallen vacant following the death of PTI’s Sardar Jaffar Khan Leghari in December 2022. Two days before the polling, the interim government of Punjab on Friday requested the commission to postpone the by-election. The government said that the Dera Ghazi Khan division commissioner has raised security concerns in a letter to the home department. The commissioner also wrote to the ECP requesting postponement over security concerns. The ECP, in a statement, said the Punjab government’s requested couldn’t be entertained as all arrangements for the by-election were already in place. Pakistan, India renew Kartarpur Corridor Agreement for 5-year term: FO

Pakistan and India have renewed their agreement to facilitate pilgrims via the Kartarpur Corridor for an additional five-year period, the Foreign Office (FO) said on Tuesday. A statement issued by the FO said that the “Agreement between the Republic of India and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for the facilitation of pilgrims to visit Gurudwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, Narowal, Pakistan” had been signed for an additional period of five years. Originally signed on October 24, 2019, for a five-year term, the agreement was set to complete its initial duration on Thursday. “Its renewal underscores Pakistan’s enduring commitment to fostering interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence,” the statement read. “The agreement continues to offer visa-free access to pilgrims from India enabling them to visit the sacred site of Gurudwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, where Baba Guru Nanak, the revered founder of Sikhism, spent his final days,” the statement read.
