Imran skips Quetta JIT appearance for third time

QUETTA: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan did not appear for a third time before a joint investigation team (JIT) formed to investigate the murder of Supreme Court lawyer Abdul Razzaq Shar. Mr Shar was shot dead by armed motorcyclists in a drive-by shooting on Quetta’s Airport Road last month. A day later, the PTI chief was formally named in connection with the killing of Mr Shar, who had accused Mr Khan of high treason. The complaint against Mr Khan was filed by the lawyer’s son, who accused the former prime minister of abetting murder, saying he believed his father was killed in connection with the case he had filed against Mr Khan. The JIT, which held its 7th meeting on Friday, decided to send Mr Khan another notice to appear before the team to record his statement in the case. Flash floods continue to wreak havoc in GB

GILGIT: Flash floods triggered by glacial lake outbursts continued to wreak havoc across Gilgit-Baltistan, damaging at least 10 houses and two shops and destroying two vehicles and a motorcycle in Yasin Valley of Ghizer district on Saturday, police officials said. Link roads to the valley have also been disconnected. The floods also swept away standing crops and corn fields, cherry and apricot orchards, and damaged three water channels that are the sources of irrigation and drinking water for many residents. Many people had to take shelter in places of worship. District administration started relief activities in the affected areas, dispatching food and other necessary items. Ghulam Muhammad, a senior minister in the GB government from Yasin, said all possible steps were being taken to provide relief to the people in affected areas, which have been hit by water shortage. The heavy rain, which started late Friday night, continued intermittently the next entire day, resulting in a “large-scale devastation” in the district. The deluge also triggered flash floods in Chitral, which washed away bridges, roads, and livestock. Bilawal gives land rights to 5,000 flood-hit families in Sindh

LARKANA: In the first phase of a project to give ownership rights of residential units to flood victims of Sindh, Foreign Minister and PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Friday distributed title deeds among 5,000 families whose houses had been damaged during the last year’s unprecedented rains and flooding. The PPP chairman attended the distribution ceremony held in the flood-affected village of Larkana district, Vikio Sangi, and also inspected the houses built by the Sindh Peoples Housing for Flood Affectees for the homeless rain victims. ‘Strays into censorship territory’: HRCP expresses concern over Pemra bill elaborating on disinformation

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has expressed concern over a Pemra amendment bill, saying the definition of disinformation under it “strays into censorship territory”. The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Amendment Act 2022 was introduced in the National Assembly by Information and Broadcasting Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb on Thursday and elaborates on disinformation. It was unanimously approved by the NA’s Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting today, according to state broadcaster Radio Pakistan . The bill says that “disinformation means verifiably false, misleading, manipulated, created or fabricated information which is disseminated or shared with the intention to cause harm to the reputation of or to harass any person for political, personal, or financial interest or gains without making an effort to get other person’s point of view or not giving it proper coverage and space, but does not include misinformation”. Clashes leave four injured as Wadh unrest echoes in NA

ISLAMABAD: After a few hours of calm due to an overnight ceasefire, hostilities resumed between two rival groups of the Mengal tribe in Wadh on Thursday, injuring at least four people. Imran doubts veracity of Azam Khan’s alleged statement on cipher controversy

PTI chief and former prime minister Imran Khan on Thursday questioned the veracity of a statement being attributed to his former principal secretary on the matter of cipher controversy, saying he would not believe it was from Azam Khan until he has heard him say it himself. “The Azam Khan (former principal secretary) I know is an honest and capable man. And he cannot say what I have read in the cipher ( sic ).
